Skin Boosters vs Polynucleotides: Which One Does Your Skin Need?

Nicola Mann • 25 September 2026

Skin boosters and polynucleotides get mentioned together a lot, and clients often ask us which one they should book.

Both are small injections that improve your skin from the inside, and neither changes the shape of your face the way fillers do.

The difference is in what they fix, so here's a plain guide to help you work out which one suits your skin.

WHAT ARE SKIN BOOSTERS?

Skin boosters are tiny amounts of hyaluronic acid placed just under the surface of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is something your body makes naturally to hold moisture, and we make less of it as we get older, which is why skin starts to look drier and less plump. At Claws we use Seventy Hyal 2000, which spreads evenly through the skin to hydrate it and improve its elasticity.

What skin boosters help with:

  • Dry, dehydrated skin that moisturisers don't seem to fix
  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Fine lines, especially on the cheeks, neck and chest
  • Skin that has lost its bounce

If you need help with any of the above, book your skin booster treatment here.

WHAT ARE POLYNUCLEOTIDES?

Polynucleotides are a regenerative treatment made from purified DNA fragments.

Once injected, they encourage your skin to repair itself and produce more collagen and elastin, so the skin gradually gets stronger, thicker and healthier over the following weeks.

What polynucleotides help with:

  • Thin, crepey skin under the eyes
  • Dark circles and hollowness around the eyes
  • Skin that looks thin, fragile or tired
  • Uneven texture and acne scarring
  • Overall skin quality as you get older

If any of these are concerns you have, book your polynucleotides treatment here.

THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SKIN BOOSTERS & POLYNUCLEOTIDES:

Skin boosters work mainly on hydration, so they suit skin that looks dry, dull or has lost its glow.

Polynucleotides work on repair, so they're better for skin that has become thin or crepey, particularly around the eyes. A simple way to think of it is that skin boosters give your skin the water it's missing, while polynucleotides help rebuild the skin itself.

WHICH ONE IS RIGHT FOR YOUR SKIN?

If your main complaint is that your skin feels dry and looks flat even with a good skincare routine, skin boosters are usually the best place to start. You'll tend to notice a fresher, more hydrated look fairly quickly.

If you're more bothered by the under-eye area, crepey texture, or skin that seems to have got thinner over the years, polynucleotides are normally the better choice. The results build more slowly, but they last well because the skin is being strengthened.

CAN YOU HAVE SKIN BOOSTERS & POLYNUCLEOTIDES TOGETHER?

Yes. Many people have a course of both, because treating hydration and skin strength at the same time gives a more complete result. We'll talk you through the timing at your consultation so the two treatments work well together.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL YOU NEED?

Most people have a course of two to three sessions for either treatment, spaced a few weeks apart. After that, a top-up every six to twelve months keeps the results going. Your practitioner will recommend a plan based on your skin and what you want to improve.
